Three Burglary Suspects Killed in High-Speed Crash Following Police Chase on 5 Freeway in Anaheim

ANAHEIM – Three burglary suspects were killed in a dramatic high-speed crash following a police chase on the northbound 5 Freeway early Wednesday morning. The incident commenced around 2:45 a.m. when Anaheim Police Department received reports of suspicious activity involving individuals removing parts from a vehicle on Marlboro Avenue.

Officers swiftly responded to the scene and observed the suspects actively stealing from the car. When police attempted to pull over the suspects, they fled the scene in a black sedan, triggering a police pursuit that began at around 2:50 a.m. and lasted approximately three to four minutes.

The chase concluded dangerously when the driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a crash near Brookhurst Street at around 3 a.m. Eyewitness footage from AIR7 captured the wrecked vehicle positioned near a pole in an embankment off the freeway.

At the time of the crash, there were five occupants in the sedan. Tragically, three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional passengers were transported to local hospitals, with one listed in critical condition and the other in stable condition. Authorities reported that during the pursuit, several items were reportedly thrown out of the vehicle onto the freeway.

Fortunately, no other motorists or police officers were injured in the incident. Following the crash, the northbound lanes of the freeway were initially completely shut down due to the investigation and cleanup efforts. After some hours, only the carpool and far-left lane were reopened to traffic.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is leading the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. As of now, the identities of the deceased suspects and the hospitalized individuals have not been disclosed.

This incident is a part of a larger issue concerning vehicular pursuits leading to dangerous situations on Southern California roadways. Police departments often face difficult decisions regarding pursuits, balancing public safety with the need to apprehend suspects efficiently.

The Anaheim Police Department encourages community members to report any suspicious activities, as timely alerts can lead to quicker police responses and potentially prevent such tragic outcomes in the future. As investigations continue, local residents are left grappling with the aftermath of the incident and concerns over public safety on the busy freeway.

The CHP will provide updates as more information becomes available, including details regarding the investigation, and further information about the individuals involved in this tragic situation.
