Disneyland has updated its policy for Oga’s Cantina, allowing visitors to enter without reservations. This change comes after a decline in reservation demand, particularly among local guests. The cantina, inspired by Star Wars, offers a variety of themed drinks and lively entertainment. While walk-up availability has been implemented at Disneyland, reservations remain in effect at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. This move reflects Disneyland’s efforts to adapt to visitor preferences and enhance accessibility for guests.
ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA – Disneyland has announced that Oga’s Cantina, a popular themed bar located in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, will no longer require reservations. This shift to a walk-up availability system marks the end of a six-year reservation policy aimed at managing guest demand.
The transition means that visitors to Disneyland can now enter Oga’s Cantina without pre-booking their spot, although existing reservations will still be honored. The change comes as Disney observed a decline in the demand for reservations, especially from local guests who have found the experience inconsistent over time.
Disney’s decision to implement a reservation system began shortly after Oga’s Cantina opened its doors in May 2019. The cantina initially featured a no-reservations policy, resulting in lengthy standby lines. In response to the overwhelming demand, Disneyland quickly adopted a reservation system, alongside a text messaging return system to help manage wait times. Initially, guests were limited to a 45-minute stay and a two-drink maximum per visit to help accommodate as many guests as possible.
By June 2019, Disneyland introduced a reservation system, with slots becoming available each day at 7 a.m. through the park’s mobile app. Patrons were required to pay a $10 refundable deposit for each reservation, adding a financial incentive to plan ahead. Despite this structure, the desire for flexibility has prompted the shift toward a walk-up policy.
Oga’s Cantina is renowned for its design, which draws inspiration from the original 1977 Star Wars movie and incorporates an unused concept sketch of Jabba the Hutt’s throne room by Ralph McQuarrie. The cantina’s interior features a curved bar within a domed space, designed without seating to encourage a standing, social atmosphere. Adding to the experience is entertainment provided by DJ R-3X, a former droid pilot from Star Tours, who plays an eclectic mix of tunes.
As the first venue at Disneyland to serve alcohol since the prestigious Club 33, Oga’s Cantina offers a diverse drink menu, with items priced between $14.75 and $23.50. Signature creations such as the Jedi Mind Trick cocktail and the themed $49 Yub Nub, served in a collectible mug, have garnered interest from visitors. A small selection of bar snacks is also available, priced from $9.50 to $18.
While the walk-up system took effect at Disneyland, advance reservations remain available for Oga’s Cantina at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. As similar trends in reservation demand emerge at both locations, discussions about potential changes to the cantina in Florida are ongoing.
The move to a walk-up availability highlights Disneyland’s response to evolving guest preferences and the desire to create a more accessible experience. The cantina’s unique atmosphere and themed offerings continue to attract patrons, even as the operational structure adapts to shifting visitor habits.
