Robert Murphy Bohanan, a cherished figure in Anaheim, passed away peacefully at 87. Known for his kindness, he leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to family and friends. A visitation and funeral service will honor his memory, marking a poignant moment for the community.

Anaheim, California

Robert Murphy Bohanan, a cherished member of the Anaheim community, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on March 15, 2025. His death marks the loss of a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, revered for his kindness and generosity.

Born on August 15, 1937, in Sevierville, Tennessee, Robert was the son of George Marshall Bohanan and Martha Elizabeth Ogal. He spent his formative years in Tennessee and graduated from Pitman High School in 1956. Following high school, Robert pursued higher education for a year at the University of Maryland before enlisting in the Navy in 1960. During his service, he worked as a Navy Medical Examiner, a position through which he contributed to the welfare of his fellow servicemen and women.

After his military service, Robert started a family in Anaheim. He met his wife, Nuvia Leon, at a local establishment known as Pirates Tavern. Their loving relationship blossomed into 42 years of marriage, during which they raised two sons, Robert and Rodney. Together, the couple shared their lives with a dog named Kipper and a cat named Lone, creating a warm home filled with love and companionship.

Robert is remembered fondly for his unwavering support and dedication to his family and friends. He had a deep-rooted love for hobbies such as gambling, notably playing slot machines, as well as a passion for horses, football, and basketball. His spirited personality and generosity left a lasting impact on those who knew him. In addition to his two sons, Robert is survived by his son Rodney D. Bohanan; two grandsons, James and Aaron; two granddaughters, Yzabelle and Dalene; five brothers, Ed, Carl, Frank, Rick, and Bill; a sister, Mary Helen Johnson; and a daughter-in-law, Vilma.

Tragically, Robert was preceded in death by several family members, including his wife Nuvia, son Robert, parents Marshall and Martha, sister Betty Gene Rhyne, and brother Michael Bohanan. The passing of Robert marks a poignant chapter in the lives of those who loved him, particularly for his surviving son and grandchildren.

In honor of Robert’s life, a visitation is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. This will take place at Funeraria Del Angel Anaheim, located at 2425 West Lincoln Ave, Anaheim, CA 92801. A funeral service will follow that same day from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, also at the funeral home.

Additionally, a funeral service for another family member, Anthony, will occur the day prior, on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Anaheim. While the details for Robert’s burial have not been specified, it is expected that arrangements will be communicated to loved ones in due course.

Robert Murphy Bohanan will be deeply missed by family, friends, and the wider Anaheim community. His legacy of kindness and love will endure in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
