Karcher, who died on December 19, 2024, at the age of 97, will be celebrated with a funeral service on January 7, 2025.
The visitation for Robert Murphy Bohanan will take place from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Anaheim, located at 2425 West Lincoln Ave, Anaheim. The funeral service will begin at 4:00 PM on March 29. Bohanan was born on August 15, 1937, in Sevierville, Tennessee, to George Marshall Bohanan and Martha Elizabeth Ogal. He graduated from Pitman High School in 1956 and briefly attended the University of Maryland before joining the Navy in 1960, where he served as a Navy Medical Examiner.
During his service, Bohanan met his wife, Nuvia Leon, at Pirates Tavern, leading to a 42-year marriage and the raising of two sons, Robert and Rodney. The family was known to be animal lovers with a beloved dog named Kipper and a cat named Lone. Bohanan was remembered for his kindness and generosity, and he enjoyed activities such as gambling on slot machines and was passionate about horses, football, and basketball.
Robert Bohanan leaves behind his surviving son, Rodney D. Bohanan, along with grandsons James and Aaron, granddaughters Yzabelle and Dalene, five brothers, one sister, and daughter-in-law Vilma. He was preceded in death by his wife Nuvia, son Robert, sister Betty Gene Rhyne, and brother Michael Bohanan.
Joan Karcher will be honored in a funeral service at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Anaheim Hills on January 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by a reception in the church hall. Joan was born on November 22, 1927, in Tiffin, Ohio, and spent her early years on a farm. She married Bernard Karcher in 1945, and together they had six children while actively working in their family farming business.
The Karcher family relocated to California in 1963, venturing into the franchise business. They successfully founded BKI (Bernard Karcher Investments) in May 1984, becoming the first franchisee of Carl’s Jr. restaurants and opening over twenty locations throughout Southern California, including one in Anaheim Hills.
Karcher is survived by her sister Alma Schmitz from Ohio, along with her six children: Mike, Gary, Cathy, Cindy, Linda, and Dan. She also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Joan’s name to St. Joseph’s Hospital, CHOC, Mercy House, or San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church.
Both Robert Bohanan and Joan Karcher were highly regarded in their community, each leaving a lasting legacy through their families and contributions. As the community prepares to say goodbye, their memories will undoubtedly resonate within many who were touched by their lives.
