The incident took place around 12:45 PM PDT at the intersection of Falmouth Avenue and Holly Street. Police received calls regarding a “suspicious person” who was reported to be acting erratically and possibly under the influence of drugs.

Upon arrival, an officer confronted the approximately 30-year-old man, which led to the officer discharging their firearm. The man was struck by gunfire and first aid was administered immediately by the officer. He was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later.

A shovel was recovered at the scene, however, police did not provide further information regarding a brick that was also reported to be in the suspect’s possession. The officer involved in the shooting was not injured.

Lockdown at Elementary School

At the time of the shooting, classes were in session at John Marshall Elementary School. As a precautionary measure, the school implemented a temporary lockdown, ensuring the safety of students and staff. Officials confirmed that there was no direct threat to anyone on campus during the incident. The lockdown was lifted as soon as the area was secured by police.

Parents were informed about an alternate location for picking up their children after the lockdown was lifted, ensuring an organized dismissal process in the face of the emergency.

The Anaheim Police Department has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, which will involve collaboration with the Orange County District Attorney’s office and other relevant agencies. As of now, the identity of the deceased suspect has not been released pending notification from the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner’s office.
