Anaheim Launches Summer Reading Program and Community Events

The Anaheim Public Library has kicked off its annual summer reading program titled “Color Our World,” which invites participants of all ages to engage in reading activities throughout the summer while earning exciting prizes. Registration for the program is available through the Beanstack app or in-person at the Canyon Hills Library. This popular program is set to conclude on July 27, promoting literacy and community involvement.

In addition to the summer reading initiative, the library has organized a series of community events during June at its Canyon Hills and East Anaheim branches. One of the highlights will be a special storytime event featuring Megan the Bubbleologist at the Canyon Hills branch on June 17 at 11 a.m. This entertaining event promises to captivate young audiences with engaging storytelling and bubble art.

On June 19 starting at 4 p.m., Canyon Hills will also host a meaningful Juneteenth celebration featuring renowned storyteller Iwalani, who will share enriching narratives centered around the theme of freedom and history. Attendees are encouraged to participate in this cultural celebration that highlights the importance of Juneteenth.

Another event at Canyon Hills will be the performance of “The Dinosaur Who Cried ‘Asteroid!'”, a puppet and magic show scheduled for June 28 at 2 p.m. This show is designed to entertain and educate children about dinosaurs and storytelling in an interactive format.

Meanwhile, the East Anaheim Branch Library will also share in the excitement with a meet and greet event with Rapunzel during its summer reading kick-off party at 11 a.m. on June 18. This event includes crafts and a sing-along, making it a delightful experience for families and young children.

In conjunction with the library events, Anaheim’s Community Service Department is organizing a community meeting for District 6 (Anaheim Hills) on June 19 at 7 p.m. This meeting, set to take place at the East Anaheim Community Center, will give residents the opportunity to engage with city staff on various community issues, including discussions on community reporting tools and fire evacuation routes, led by Mike Lyster, Chief Communication Officer.

Furthermore, the Friends of Canyon Hills Library are hosting a flash book sale on June 17 and 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. This sale will provide a wide range of fiction, nonfiction, and specialty books, with proceeds supporting various community programs and services.

As the summer progresses, Anaheim is also planning for its Fourth of July celebration, featuring a Firecracker 5K/10K Run beginning at 7 a.m. from Canyon High School. The festivities also include a Yankees Doddle Dog Show and a chance to register for the Disneyland Fourth of July Parade, which starts at 1 p.m. The day’s events wrap up with food booths, entertainment, and a spectacular fireworks show at Peralta Park at 9 p.m. Registrations for these activities can be completed on the city’s website or by contacting the city’s event office.

Additionally, the Ebell Club of Anaheim is inviting residents to contribute personal reflections to the “2025 Legacy Box,” a time capsule intended to collect stories, poetry, photos, and drawings that reflect on significant historical milestones in Anaheim’s history. This unique initiative allows residents to leave their legacy as part of the city’s ongoing journey until 2050. For any inquiries about this project, residents can reach out via the provided email address.

The Anaheim Public Library and its associated events promote community engagement, literacy, and cultural appreciation, making it a vibrant hub for all residents this summer.
