The CSUF Titans demonstrate extraordinary talent and teamwork across multiple sports this season.
The California State University, Fullerton Titans have had a successful season, achieving significant milestones in softball, golf, and track and field. The softball team won the Big West conference championship, with standout player Ava Arce breaking program records. The women’s golf team secured their first Big West championship and qualified for the NCAA Championships, while the men’s golf team finished second in their conference. Additionally, the track and field team showcased their talent, winning relay titles and individual championships. Coaching changes have been announced for women’s basketball and volleyball as well.
Fullerton, CA – The California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) Titans athletic programs have celebrated remarkable achievements this season across several sports, including softball, golf, and track and field. The softball team secured the Big West conference championship for the second consecutive year, while both the men’s and women’s golf teams made significant strides in their respective competitions. The track and field teams also showcased outstanding performances at their conference championships.
Ava Arce was recognized as the Big West Softball Field Player of the Year, capping off an outstanding season characterized by standout statistics. She led the conference in multiple categories, hitting 12 home runs and boasting a remarkable batting average of .405, along with 63 RBIs—the highest in the conference. Arce’s 63 RBIs also set a new program record, breaking a long-standing record held for 24 years by Jen Topping. Under the guidance of Coach Gina Oaks Garcia, who was honored as the Big West Coach of the Year, the Titans finished the season with an impressive overall record of 37 wins and 15 losses, posting a conference record of 22 wins to only 5 losses.
The women’s golf team made history this season by winning their first-ever Big West Women’s Golf Championship. They also achieved a remarkable fifth-place finish at the NCAA West Regionals, which qualified them for the NCAA Championships for the first time. The Titans highlighted their season with four individual tournament victories and two team titles. Kaitlyn Zermeno Smith was named Big West Golfer of the Year, while Davina Xanh secured the runner-up position in the conference standings. Meanwhile, the men’s golf team finished second in the Big West after an early season setback where they placed 14th in a tournament. Coaches Jason Drotter and Jason Dietrich focused on rigorous boot camp training to foster discipline and mental toughness among their players.
The men’s track and field team also had a successful season, finishing second in the Big West championships with notable performances in the relay events. They won titles in both the 4-by-100 and 4-by-400 meter relays. Individually, Abel Jordan claimed victory in the 110 hurdles, while Isaiah Emerson and Hawkin Miller emerged as champions in the 400 meters and shot put events, respectively. The CSUF women’s track team concluded their season in sixth place overall. They celebrated a notable victory in the 4-by-100 relay and witnessed Brooklyn Davis capturing the title in the 100 meters.
CSUF also announced significant coaching changes in their women’s basketball and volleyball programs. John Bonner has been named the new head coach for the women’s basketball team after a disappointing season for the previous coach, Jeff Harada. Bonner previously led the women’s program at Cal State Dominguez Hills, transforming it into a premier Division II program, with a notable 36-2 record last season. Additionally, Nicky Cannon has been re-hired as the head coach for the women’s volleyball team after spending three years coaching at UC Riverside. Cannon previously served as an assistant coach at CSUF and has a track record of success in her coaching career.
The accomplishments of the CSUF Titans’ athletic programs reflect a season of hard work, determination, and exemplary skill across various sports disciplines.
