Formosa Packaging has acquired a 136,800 square foot production facility at 835 S. Bellevue Blvd. in Memphis for $3.55 million. This move marks a significant expansion for the company, bringing hope to the community after the closure of a previous facility. With plans to transition operations and create new job opportunities, Formosa’s expansion signals a promising future for the city’s manufacturing landscape.
Memphis is buzzing with some exciting news in the world of manufacturing and logistics! Formosa Packaging, a company linked to an LLC located in sunny Irvine, California, has made a significant move by acquiring a production facility right here in the heart of the city. This new facility, situated at 835 S. Bellevue Blvd., was purchased for a whopping $3.55 million and is set to change the game for the company’s operations in Memphis.
The building was previously home to Graphic Packaging, which shut its doors in 2024, leaving about 70 hardworking employees searching for new opportunities. Thankfully, Formosa Packaging’s entry into the Memphis area brings a ray of hope and a fresh start for the community. The deed for this new property purchase has already been filed with the Shelby County Register of Deeds, marking the official beginnings of what seems to be a bright future.
This isn’t Formosa Packaging’s first venture into the Memphis market. In 2023, the company made headlines when it acquired Color Craft Label & Flexible Packaging, a well-known manufacturer specializing in custom printing and shrink sleeves. Now, with the new facility addition, Formosa will operate under the Color Craft branding in Memphis, expanding its footprint significantly.
Alongside this new purchase, Formosa also runs a production facility at 594 Dr. M.L.K. Jr. Ave., conveniently located east of the iconic FedExForum Downtown where many locals enjoy bustling events and games. With two bases of operation, it’s clear that Formosa is serious about making its mark in Memphis!
The exciting part of this development is that the new facility boasts an impressive 136,800 square feet of workspace, which is a significant upgrade from Formosa’s current location. The company has expressed that it has outgrown its existing facility and is eager to expand operations at this new site. Plans are underway to transition Color Craft operations to the new facility by Q3 2025, setting the stage for a substantial growth spurt.
But that’s not all! Formosa is not just planning to move in; they are eyeing additional space within the building for expansion by 2026. This kind of determination speaks volumes about the company’s commitment to its growth in the region.
In the coming years, this expansion is set to create approximately 20 new jobs primarily in production and warehousing roles. Currently, the Memphis branch employs 14 people, and it’s always heartening to see a company dedicated to both growth and employment opportunities in the community.
With a total of six facilities in the United States and three more international operators, Formosa Packaging is clearly a global player. Their decision to remain firmly rooted in Memphis was influenced by the city’s strategic location within the U.S., which allows for impressive logistics potential. This new facility will not only serve as a production site but also as a vital distribution center, aiming to strengthen relationships with customers located throughout the Central U.S. This optimization of delivery is sure to enhance their service capabilities.
As Memphis gears up for this exciting chapter with Formosa Packaging, there’s much to look forward to in the future. The city’s manufacturing landscape is brightening, creating a wave of optimism for residents and businesses alike. With fresh job opportunities and expansion plans setting the community abuzz, Formosa’s advancement in Memphis is definitely a story worth watching!
