This weekend saw high school baseball and softball teams delivering thrilling performances across the city. With standout victories like Banning’s impressive 12-0 win and Eagle Rock’s 3-0 triumph, fans were treated to an action-packed series of games. The Southern Section also saw teams like Bishop Montgomery and Arcadia securing significant wins, upping the excitement for the season ahead. Baseball kicked off strong in the City Section, with Banning making a splash by defeating North Hollywood 12-0. They really showed off their skills, proving why they are a team to watch this season. Fairfax also got in on the winning action, overcoming Bravo with a score of 5-3, while Kennedy brought home a decisive win against Marshall with a score of 6-1.
In another nail-biter, Maywood CES managed to edge past Arleta, winning 2-0. Rancho Dominguez kept their momentum going by defeating Environmental Charter 5-1. San Pedro also claimed victory over Venice with a solid 5-2 scoreline, while Sylmar was right on their heels, winning against Palisades 5-2 as well.
Then, Vaughn pulled off an astonishing performance with a commanding 17-0 win over Reseda, a real morale booster for the team. Verdugo Hills had a nail-biter as they squeezed past Bell with an 8-7 victory, while Wilson had a clean sheet against Roosevelt, winning 8-0.
Moving on to the Southern Section, Anaheim pulled ahead of Artesia with a score of 5-3. Anaheim Canyon had an exciting game too, overcoming Brea Olinda 9-7. The intensity didn’t stop there, as Arroyo Valley triumphed over Rim of the World in a high-scoring match, winning 12-10.
Aquinas defeated Ontario Christian with a comfortable score of 9-5, while Bishop Amat brought home a win against La Salle, finalizing at 6-4. The day wasn’t short of highs for Bishop Montgomery as they demolished Animo Leadership 17-0. Bonita, too, had a solid win over Ayala, achieving a score of 5-3.
As the weekend progressed, teams like Corona del Mar and Kaiser emerged victorious with impressive scores of 11-0 and 11-2, respectively. There were further tight encounters, such as the thrilling 4-3 results for both San Jacinto Valley Academy over West Valley and Savanna against South Pasadena.
Shifting gears to the softball fields, Eagle Rock had a good run as they defeated Verdugo Hills 3-0. Venice applied some pressure over Eagle Rock later, sealing a strong victory with a score of 14-3.
In the Southern Section, Arcadia celebrated a convincing win against Burbank with a score of 6-0. Big Bear showcased their offensive skills by beating Southlands Christian 9-5, and Castaic enjoyed a major victory over Bishop Diego at 14-4.
Chino Hills didn’t want to be left out of the excitement and achieved a robust 13-2 victory over Chino. Hart secured their berth in the win column, defeating Highland 11-7, while Lakeside and Temecula Valley had a thrilling contest showcasing Lakeside’s victory 6-4.
There’s no stopping the action there; Carson and Long Beach Poly tangled in a competitive game, with Carson tipping the scales in their favor 6-5. Palos Verdes had their own success over Carson, winning 5-2. Venice showcased their gripping form with a narrow victory against Westlake at 4-3, and Westlake followed up with a convincing 10-0 win over Verdugo Hills.
