The Mystic Dance Team rehearses for their upcoming national competition.
The Mystic Dance Team is gearing up for the Showstoppers’ West Coast Finals at Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, showcasing their skills honed through various competitions nationwide. With a focus on teamwork and community support, the team prepares for an exciting performance with routines in hip-hop and skirt dance. Driven by dedicated volunteers and a commitment to inclusivity, they continue to inspire and mentor young dancers ahead of the competition.
In the charming city of Taos, a group of talented dancers is busy preparing for a thrilling national competition that promises to be nothing short of spectacular! The Mystic Dance Team has set their sights on the coveted title at the Showstoppers’ West Coast Finals, scheduled for July 16 to 20 at the iconic Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California.
This year has been a whirlwind for the Mystic Dance Team as they have traveled across the country, showcasing their incredible skills in various competitions in states like Texas, New Jersey, California, New York, and Florida. Even with the challenges of traveling and competing, these budding dancers have continued to shine and make a name for themselves on the national stage.
What truly sets the Mystic Dance Team apart is their unwavering spirit and commitment. They do not have any paid instructors, instead relying on the support and guidance of passionate volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to teach and mentor the children in dance.
To make this all possible, the team actively participates in fundraising activities and seeks out sponsorships, which help cover essential expenses like lodging, uniforms, and competition tickets. These funds are crucial to ensure that every dancer has the opportunity to perform and shine on a bigger stage!
As the end-of-season approaches, the team has their focus locked on the upcoming competition in Anaheim and another exciting event, the Fiesta de Taos, scheduled for July 25-27. With practice sessions three days a week, the Mystic Dance Team incorporates around 25 kids into their dance classes, ensuring that everyone gets a taste of the magic of dance.
The Mystic Dance Team has a lineage of success. Their journey began way back in 2012 when they celebrated their first win on the world stage, and they have been maintaining that incredible momentum ever since!
What’s even more inspiring is the involvement of older students in mentoring younger dancers. Take Talia Rodriguez, a sophomore at Taos High School, who has stepped up as a student instructor, making a positive impact on her peers and younger dancers.
In an exciting move to diversify their performance variety and scoring potential, efforts are being made to encourage more boys to join the Mystic Dance Team. This initiative not only adds a refreshing dynamic to their routines but also promotes inclusivity in a traditionally female-dominated space.
As the competition draws nearer, the Mystic Dance Team is committed to sharing their results with the Taos community. They plan to publish updates in future editions, making sure everyone is in the loop about their impressive accomplishments.
Coach Angel Lucero, has expressed how fulfilling it is to witness the excitement and growth of the children involved in the dance program. The heartwarming transformations of these young talents not only foster a love for dance but also build resilience and confidence, making the journey all the more rewarding.
As the countdown to the Showstoppers’ West Coast Finals continues, the Mystic Dance Team is fueled by passion, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to dance, promising an unforgettable performance at Anaheim!
