In the final round of play, the team shot an impressive 10-under-par 274, a noteworthy achievement given that they competed without their top player, Harry Takis, who was sidelined due to a minor injury.
SDSU ended up tied with UNLV for seventh place, while the tournament saw No. 6 Arizona State and New Mexico finish as co-champions, each achieving a score of -14. Utah, playing on its home course, secured third place with a score of -13. Other notable teams that outperformed San Diego State included No. 13 Brigham Young at -5, Kansas State at +13, and Colorado State at +16.
In the competitive field of The Wohali tournament, the Aztecs displayed strong teamwork, with all four of the competing starters contributing to the scoring in the five-count-four format. The remarkable 10-under score achieved on the final day was tied for the third lowest of the round, alongside Utah’s efforts.
Junior Nathan Sampson led the way for the Aztecs, recording a career-low score of 5-under 66 during the final round, which positioned him tied for 14th overall at even-par 213. Meanwhile, senior Chanachon Chokprajakchat also shot a 66, finishing tied for 24th at +4 after overcoming a challenging prior round of 82. Sophomore Kai Hirayama posted a score of 72, placing him tied for 27th at 5-over 218. Senior Tyler Kowack completed the tournament with a score of 1-under 70, ending in a tie for 44th at +10. The individual medalist honors were shared by Davis Johnson of Utah and Connor Williams of Arizona State, each finishing at -9.
The Aztecs had additional representation in the Soldier Hollow Individual event, where five individual golfers were competing, including freshmen and juniors Beah Sahr, Phillip Kench, Teddy Gardner, Grant Lester, and Grayson Sebastian.
