San Diego — The San Diego State swim and dive program has kicked off its early-season schedule on a high note, dominating recent meets and securing a significant title at the Fresno State Invitational. SDSU swimmers show promising talent as they prepare for upcoming competitions, including a dual meet against Pepperdine on October 9, 2025.

The dual meet against Pepperdine is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. PT at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool in Malibu, California. This match marks the first of two head-to-head contests between the Aztecs and Waves this season. The Aztecs boast an impressive track record against Pepperdine, having secured 24 consecutive victories since 2001, including a notable 95-52 win in their last meet last season in Malibu. In that match, SDSU swept all seven swimming events and also took home one diving title.

Coming off a successful performance, San Diego State registered an 81-67 win against the University of San Diego on September 26, 2025. During this duel, SDSU swimmers excelled by winning all eight events, claiming at least the top three finishes in six of them. Notably, Alli Mann achieved remarkable success with three event titles in the 150 freestyle, 150 butterfly, and 400 freestyle. Other SDSU swimmers who excelled included Abby Storm, who won the 150 backstroke, Moa Bergdahl, victor in the 150 breaststroke, and Reka Nyiradi, who triumphed in the 300 individual medley.

After facing Pepperdine, the Aztecs will participate in the Fresno State Invitational on October 10-11, where they will compete against teams such as Air Force, San José State, and the host Bulldogs. Events at the Fresno State Aquatics Center will kick off on Friday at 11 a.m. PT, with a second session planned for 6 p.m., and Saturday’s events beginning at 10 a.m. Historically, SDSU has been a strong contender at the Fresno State Invitational, finishing as the runner-up in all previous eight appearances since 2016. In last year’s meet, the Aztecs scored a total of 920 points, falling short of UCLA’s winning score of 1097.50 points. Reka Nyiradi led the competition last year with 74 points, winning events in both the 500 freestyle and the 400 individual medley.

This year, SDSU is currently leading among five schools participating in the Fresno State Invitational with 564.50 points after the initial two sessions on Friday. The team achieved four event titles during the day, highlighted by Nyiradi’s victories in the 400 individual medley and the 800 freestyle relay, along with Abby Storm clinching the top spot in the 100 backstroke.

As the competition progresses, the Aztecs have demonstrated dominant performances, with multiple swimmers earning notable rankings across various events. With a final score of 931.50 points, San Diego State clinched the team title at the Fresno State Invitational, marking their first win at this event after eight consecutive second-place finishes.

Looking ahead, the team will have a three-week break before participating in a quad meet at California Baptist from October 31 to November 1. The San Diego State swim and dive program is currently building momentum, showcasing their strength and potential in early-season contests, and fans will be eager to see how they perform in future meets.
