San Diego – San Diego State volleyball head coach Brent Hilliard has announced the team’s 2025 schedule, which includes 29 regular-season matches, set to take place in the fall of that year. The season comprises 18 matches in the Mountain West Conference and 11 non-conference matches, showcasing a challenging lineup.
The Aztecs’ opponents include 15 teams that finished with a winning record last season, with a collective overall record of 258-159 (.619). Among these adversaries, three participated in postseason play, signaling a highly competitive season on the horizon for SDSU.
The 2025 season kicks off with the California Tournament on August 29-30 in Berkeley, where the Aztecs will face the University of California and San Francisco. Historically, SDSU holds a 6-2 record against California but encountered a setback in their last meeting in 2022. The Aztecs share the same record against San Francisco, having last faced them in 2015.
After the California Tournament, SDSU will compete in the Flo Hyman Classic from September 4-6 in Houston, Texas, where they will encounter the host Houston Cougars, LSU, and Omaha. While SDSU leads their historical matchup with LSU 3-1, they have not met since 1991. This tournament will also mark the first meeting between the Aztecs and Omaha, a team that advanced to the second round of the NIVC last season.
The non-conference schedule continues with the LBSU Tournament on September 11-13 in Long Beach. Here, SDSU will go up against Oregon, UC Riverside, and Long Beach State. Oregon made it to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Championships last year and finished ranked No. 10 nationally. The Aztecs hold a narrow 6-5 advantage in their series against Oregon but will be looking to bounce back after a loss in their last encounter. They have a commanding 16-3 record against UC Riverside, having won their most recent meeting, and a 26-19 record against Long Beach State, though they have not faced this team since 2021.
The home schedule commences from September 18-20 with matches against UC San Diego, USD, and Yale. SDSU boasts a perfect 15-0 record against UC San Diego and won their last match against them in 2023. The upcoming match against USD will be the first since 2022, with USD leading the series 33-27. The Aztecs will meet Yale for the first time in their history during this segment.
Mountain West Conference play begins with a series of four away matches, kicking off at Fresno State on September 25 and continuing at San José State on September 27. SDSU will also take on Air Force (October 2) and Nevada (October 4) in this stretch. The Aztecs will play all Mountain West schools at home and on the road except for Air Force, Nevada, Colorado State (November 13), and Wyoming (November 15).
Following a stint in Reno, the Aztecs will host New Mexico on October 9, UNLV on October 11, and Grand Canyon on October 16. Last season, SDSU avenged a previous loss to New Mexico with a sweep, while they seek to change their record against Grand Canyon after a loss in 2019.
After a rematch against UNLV on October 18, the team will take on Utah State and Boise State in consecutive matches. The regular season will conclude with home games against Colorado State, Wyoming, San José State, and Fresno State from November 13 to November 22.
The Mountain West Championship is scheduled for November 26-29 at UNLV’s Cox Pavilion, featuring the top six teams competing for an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Last season, SDSU finished with a record of 20-10 and will return ten letterwinners, including standout Taylor Underwood, while also welcoming seven newcomers to their roster, including Division I transfer Ella Schabort.
Season tickets for the 2025 home schedule are available for purchase online or via phone, providing fans an opportunity to support the Aztecs in what is poised to be an exciting and challenging volleyball season.
