San Diego – The San Diego State women’s soccer program has officially unveiled its non-conference schedule for the 2025 season, featuring a total of seven matches, with five taking place at home. The announcement came on Friday, outlining an exciting lineup aimed at enhancing team performance and engagement with local fans.

The season will commence with two exhibition matches. The Aztecs are scheduled to face the San Diego Toreros on August 6 at the SDSU Sports Deck, followed by a match against Southern California in Los Angeles on August 9. These preliminary matches are designed to prepare the team for the upcoming regular season.

The regular season kicks off on August 14 with a contest against Texas Tech, marking the first matchup between the two teams since 2019. This game will follow the exhibition phase and set the tone for the competitive season ahead. Just three days later, on August 17, SDSU will host Cal State Bakersfield, a team that the Aztecs defeated 3-0 during their 2024 season opener.

On August 21, the Aztecs will travel to Palo Alto to face Stanford, returning the favor after hosting the Cardinal in the prior season. The month of August will conclude with another home match against UC San Diego at Snapdragon Stadium on August 30, where the Aztecs will look to avenge a historic loss, as it marks the first defeat in the program’s history.

The subsequent matches include a road game against Pepperdine on September 11. SDSU has faced Pepperdine in three of the last four seasons, with their last encounter in 2023 resulting in a 1-1 draw. After this away fixture, the team will return home for the remainder of September, playing against UC Riverside on September 14, and Hawai’i on September 21. The last match against UC Riverside was in 2014, while the edge against Hawai’i goes back to 2011.

The schedule aims to not only challenge the Aztecs but also strengthen regional rivalries and community engagement. Head coach Mike Friesen, who has been pivotal in shaping the program’s direction, continues to lead the team into the 2025 season. Under his guidance, the emphasis has been on building a competitive team atmosphere while developing local talent.

In addition to Friesen’s leadership, the program has welcomed a new assistant coach, Louis Hunt, who brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles with San Diego Wave FC and the US Women’s National Teams. This addition is part of the team’s strategy to enhance overall performance and mentoring for athletes.

The Aztecs’ non-conference schedule is not only a test of their skills but also a celebration of women’s collegiate soccer in San Diego. Fans and supporters can anticipate an engaging series of matches that will showcase local talents and invigorate the college soccer landscape.

The carefully curated schedule reflects the ongoing growth of the San Diego State women’s soccer program as it seeks to make its mark in the competitive landscape of collegiate athletics. With home matches primarily filling the calendar, local fans will have ample opportunity to support the Aztecs as they strive for success in the upcoming season.
