Therese’s journey began on July 30, 1931, in the charming town of Winthrop, Massachusetts. Born to the late William F. Collins and Bernadette (McDonald) Collins, she grew up in a close-knit family environment, finding joy in her surroundings even as an only child. From the shores of Winthrop to the streets of Everett and Charlestown, her upbringing was filled with love and support.

Education and Early Career

Therese’s academic journey culminated with a graduation from St. Joseph High School in Somerville, where she completed the Class of 1949. Throughout her young adult life, she held various roles, gracefully balancing her work and her dedication to her family, notably taking care of her mother who battled severe arthritis. She first worked in a bank in downtown Boston, and later, as a telephone operator, showcasing her remarkable ability to connect with people.

A New Chapter in Life

In 1983, Therese stepped into a new role as a librarian at the Lynnfield Public Library. Her passion for books and helping others made this career a perfect fit. She often said that being surrounded by written stories brought her immense joy. Therese cherished her time there until her retirement in 1996, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and knowledge that will not be forgotten.

Family Life and Traditions

Therese was happily married to her beloved husband, Warren A. Smith, for over 63 wonderful years. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love, raising four beautiful children: Therese “Te” Smith, Mark and Robin Smith, Richard Smith, and Joseph Smith. They created cherished memories around the dinner table, with Therese’s famous Sunday roast dinners being a beloved family tradition that everyone looked forward to.

Community and Hobbies

The Smith family resided in Revere, Massachusetts, before making their home in the lovely town of Lynnfield. Therese’s love extended beyond her family; she was an active parishioner at Our Lady of the Assumption in Lynnfield and Immaculate Conception in Revere. She was known for her incredible cooking skills, love for gardening, and her knack for crocheting. Besides her hobbies, she enjoyed socializing with friends and volunteering for church activities, often supporting charitable organizations assisting disadvantaged children and servicemen stationed overseas.

A Lasting Legacy

Therese was predeceased by her loving husband Warren in 2018, but leaves behind a legacy that is surely felt by her family. She is survived by her children and five grandchildren: Erin Anderson, Matthew Smith, Brian Smith, Maya Duarte, Jake Smith, and a great-grandchild, Thomas Warren Anderson. Her family treasures the memories and lessons she imparted, and they know her spirit will continue to guide them.

Final Farewell

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Therese’s life on Thursday, March 20, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph Church in Epping, New Hampshire, beginning at 11:00 AM. Prior to the Mass, visitors may pay their respects to the family from 10:00 AM. Following the Mass, burial services will be held at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Peabody, Massachusetts, expected to start around 1:00 PM.

In Memory of Therese
