ALBUQUERQUE – The University of New Mexico (UNM) has officially announced its complete volleyball schedule for the 2025 season, featuring an exciting lineup of 14 home matches to be held at the Johnson Center. The season will commence with the Lobo Invitational, where the Lobos will go head-to-head against teams including Manhattan, Northern Arizona, and Houston Christian on August 29-30.
After ranking ninth in the Mountain West conference last season with a 13-15 overall record and a 6-12 in-conference record, the Lobos are aiming to rebound and secure a spot in the Mountain West Tournament in 2025. Historically, the Lobos have shown promise with a winning percentage of .585 over the last four seasons, notably boasting a home record of 33-18.
The Lobos will host their rival New Mexico State twice in 2025, first on September 16 and then travel to Las Cruces the following day. UNM holds a strong home record against NMSU, winning 18 out of 30 encounters, while only winning 10 out of 29 times on the road. Last year, UNM triumphed over NMSU in both meetings, winning in four sets during their home match and achieving a clean sweep during their away game.
To kick off the season, fans can look forward to the first exhibition match against D-II New Mexico Highlands on August 23 at the Johnson Center, providing an early glimpse of the 2025 team. Following the exhibition, the Lobos will participate in a tournament at Tarleton State from September 4-6, competing against Northwestern State and Prairie View A&M.
In addition, the team will also engage in a second round-robin tournament in Riverside, California, facing Portland State and Cal State Fullerton on September 11-12, before concluding their tournament play against Cal Baptist on September 13. The Mountain West conference play, consisting of an 18-match format, will kick off on September 23 and run through to November 22, featuring the Lobos’ opening game against Utah State.
With a focus on building fan engagement, the Lobos’ schedule includes multiple home matches, especially at the beginning of the conference play. They will host four consecutive home matches at the Johnson Center against Utah State, Boise State, and others between September 23 and October 8. Following these matches, the Lobos will embark on a challenging three-game road trip to San Diego State, Grand Canyon, and UNLV from October 9-16, before returning home to face Grand Canyon again on October 18.
The Lobos will then have an intensive schedule in late October and early November, highlighted by a four-match home stretch from October 30 to November 8. The Senior Day celebration will coincide with their match against San Diego State on November 8, offering fans a chance to celebrate the team’s graduating seniors. The regular season will conclude with road matches against Wyoming and Colorado State on November 20 and 22, respectively.
Should UNM qualify for the Mountain West Volleyball Championship, the tournament is set to take place in Las Vegas from November 26-29, bringing additional excitement to the end of their season.
UNM encourages fans to stay connected and engage with the volleyball squad through promotional events and behind-the-scenes content available on social media at @UNMLoboVB, making the 2025 season a remarkable experience for both the players and supporters alike.
