Born on May 22, 1933, in Anaheim, California, Vinson was the adopted son of Clarence H. and Catherine Burnett from Arizona. His service in the U.S. Marine Corps marked him as a true American hero, following which he spent 17 years working as an engineer at the Redland’s Fire Department from 1963 until 1980.

Vinson is survived by an extended family that includes his brother, William Burnett, who is currently 101 years old, as well as two of his four daughters, Constance Ontiveros and Leslie Eischen. His family also includes son-in-law Richard Eischen, the sister of his deceased daughter Jennifer, Linley Macpherson, and four adult grandchildren: Erin and Robin Ontiveros, along with Jeremiah and Zachariah Eischen. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Jaiden Enriquez, their father Gabriel Enriquez, and several extended family members including Debbie and Steve Campbell and Lee Thompson.

Family and Legacy

Vinson’s life was marked by significant losses, including the passing of his wife, Mary, in 1996, his sister Marcella in 1986, and two daughters: Jennifer in 2025 and Daphne Burnett in 2018. His loving companion, Lois Bohannon, passed away in 2019, and his son-in-law, Ernie Ontiveros, died in 2020. Despite these challenges, Vinson was remembered by the community as a beloved figure known for his honor, love, and charm.

Not only was Vinson recognized for his service in the military, but he was also known for his dedication to the Redland’s Fire Department. His commitment to the community and service made a lasting impact on many residents. In honor of Vinson Burnett, memorial services are set to take place on May 15, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel, located at 703 Brookside Ave., Redlands, CA 92373. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Hillside Memorial Park at 1:00 pm, situated at 1540 Alessandro Rd., Redlands, CA 92373.
